Here's Penny
Fresh from a moult and looking a lot nicer than she did a few weeks ago!
Crisp and cold this morning - even the chickens looked like they were breathing smoke!
Well, it's been ages since I posted here, so maybe I'll try a bit harder. Another thing I've been trying harder at is keeping the garden under check, and I've actually managed to get some work done on it at the right time of the year!A couple of weeks ago we had a purge and cleared the decks. Jane and I went off to the rather excellent (cheap) Clock House Nursery in Enfield, and got a heap of shrubs to put into the garden, plus some onion sets. Heaving a couple of things out of pots and into the borders, and next year we might get something approaching a garden. So - 24th Oct in went some shrubs (I'll list what they were at some point), plus 50 onions sets - a red variety called Electric.I ordered some garlic as well, and that wen in today - 2 bulbs of Provence Wight (which gave me at least 30 cloves), and three bulbs of Solent Wight - a good 35 cloves also.So raised bed 1 had (from front to back) onion "Electric", garlic "Provence Wight" and finally garlic "Solent Wight".
I've put mesh over this bed now, as Penny - our most adventurous chicken - likes hopping over the fence and having a scrape around.Sunset, 4th Jan 2010.
Sunrise, 5th Jan 2010. Had I thought of this earlier, I'd have done this on New Year's Eve (like I was going to be awake at dawn on 1st Jan.....)
